Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions students ask most about finding accommodation, applying, NSFAS accreditation, payments and managing your account on Sta.Res.
Getting Started
What is Sta.Res?
Sta.Res is a platform for finding accredited student accommodation. You can search listings, submit enquiries, apply directly to rooms and manage your applications and documents in one place.
Do I need an account to browse listings?
No. Anyone can search and view accommodation listings without an account. You only need to sign up to save rooms, apply directly, or track an application.
How do I create an account?
Use the Sign Up page and select your institution. If your institution isn't on the list, choose "Other" and enter it manually.
Finding & Applying for Accommodation
Do I need an account to submit an enquiry?
No — you can submit an accommodation enquiry without an account. Creating an account lets you apply directly from a listing and track your application afterwards.
Can I find accommodation near a specific university or campus?
Yes — enter your university, campus or area in the search bar, or tell the placement team your campus when you submit an enquiry, and they'll help match you with nearby options.
How long does the application process take?
It depends on the property and how quickly documents are provided, but the placement team follows up on enquiries as they come in and will keep you updated on next steps.
What happens after I submit an enquiry?
Sta.Res routes your enquiry to the responsible placement team, who follow up with suitable listings and the next application steps.
Can I apply directly from a listing?
Yes, if you're logged in. Open any listing and use the Apply button to submit a formal application for that room, which you can then track from My Applications.
NSFAS & Funding
Are Sta.Res listings NSFAS accredited?
Some are. Listings that are NSFAS accredited display an "NSFAS Accredited" badge on the listing and in search results.
How do I filter for NSFAS-accredited accommodation?
On the Search page, use the NSFAS filter toggle to show only NSFAS-eligible listings.
I'm NSFAS funded — where do I see my funding status?
If your profile is marked as NSFAS funded, your Payments page shows your funding status. For specifics on your allowance or placement, contact your residence manager or the support desk.
Pricing & Payments
How much does student accommodation cost through Sta.Res?
Pricing varies by property, room type and location. Each listing shows its monthly price, and you can filter search results by room type and specification to match your budget.
How do I pay for my accommodation?
Payment is arranged directly with your residence once your application is approved. Check your Payments page for your current status, or contact support for the specifics of your placement.
Can I see my application and payment status?
Yes — My Applications shows the status of everything you've applied for, and Payments shows your billing history once you have an active application.
Account & Privacy
Do I need to verify a code by email every time I log in?
No. Students log in directly with their username and password — the email verification code step only applies to property manager and account manager logins.
How do I delete my account?
Go to your Profile and choose to delete your account. See the Delete Account page for exactly what is removed and what is retained for operational records.
Is my personal information kept private?
Yes. See the Privacy Policy for details on what we collect, why, and how it's protected.
Support
How do I contact Sta.Res?
Visit the Contact page or the support desk for help with an enquiry, application or account issue.
I have an issue at my residence (maintenance, security, etc.) — what do I do?
Once you're logged in and have an active placement, use Report an Issue from your dashboard. It goes directly to your property's management team.
What is the Marketplace?
The Marketplace is where students can browse and list accommodation-related items and services. It's separate from room listings, which you'll find through Search.
Still have a question?
If you can't find what you're looking for here, the support desk and placement team are happy to help.
